Cat Smarts, RV news, Light Up the NIght and More

Hello,

Happy October 1st. It is a beautiful fall day here with our house half enshrouded in fog and half bathed in sunbeams bouncing through the trees. I hope this message finds you happy and healthy.

The fall makes me want to start baking and nesting, sort of preparing for winter. Oh, who am I kidding? I don't think I've stopped baking since Covid began! There's nothing quite as comforting as freshly baked chocolate chip cookies still warm from the oven. I am thinking of baking something I haven't tried before - fresh granola. Apparently all it takes is some oil, honey, cinnamon, salt, rolled oats and almonds. I think I will try it this weekend. If I do, I'll let you know how it turns out.

I took the early part of the week off, so didn't publish as many new stories as usual. As a result, in the "This Week" section below you will find one new story and two older ones you may have missed that I think you'll enjoy.

This Week

Has Your Cat Taught Your More Tricks Than You've Taught Him?Who's Training Who?

If you think you are smarter than your cat, you've got it all wrong.

Does Healing Touch for Animals Work?
My experience with a 3-Day Workshop

This was a really interesting and fun experience. If you don't know about Healing Touch, or even if you do, I think you'll enjoy this read.

My Cat Has Superpowers
The story of this discovery

Jasper can't fly, lift heavy objects or leap tall building in a single bound, but his superpower is super useful - to him.

Behind the Scenes

Here's a picture of our new coach when we went to officially take possession and get our two-hour walk through of how everything works. We've never had a two-hour walk-through of anything! Kind of intimidating, really. I video-taped all the important parts for future reference. The red carpet treatment is a nice touch, don't you think?

We actually left the rig there for two days because the dealer is really close to the campground that we wanted to stay at during our first trip which was planned for that upcoming weekend. There's quite a story as to how that trip went. I hope to share it with you by next week. Though the weekend didn't go as planned, I will tell you that we LOVE our new RV and the mattress is the best we've ever slept on. Gotta love a good mattress!

Favorite Fun Stuff

This past week my wife showed me a picture on Facebook of a mama and baby parrot. The baby totally looked like a Muppet. We weren't sure it was even real. Ends up it was. I did a bit of searching and found the original picture on Reddit. You have to see this!

I am also including another similar picture with an article to verify all this cuteness is real.

Dog-Lovers, Campers, RVers, DIYers, Oh, Heck, Everyone:
I've had something really cool since last Christmas. It is the most amazing flashlight ever. Now, I know this section is supposed to be about fun stuff and a flashlight might not seem fun, but it is. This is a rechargeable light (Yay - no batteries!) that is about the same size and shape as a cardboard paper towel tube. There is a lantern mode with various brightness settings that lights up the full length of the light, plus there is a light on the end, that functions like a regular flashlight. The light is bright and the charge lasts a long time, so it is perfect for playing with our dog, Kola, after dark in her really large kennel and for taking walks at night. One of my favorite parts is that there are magnets on it, so I can stick it on one of the metal poles of her kennel and it lights up everything well enough to easily play ball. We want a couple for the new RV, in fact, we consider them "must haves." I am pretty sure the link is to the one we currently have, and is the one we are about to purchase. (This is not an affiliate link. I just really love it and will be using it most nights from now until March.)

Confession Time

I put whole cranberry sauce in my chili. Not when I am cooking it, once it is in the bowl at the same time as I am topping it with grated cheddar. This is something my grandma taught my dad and so my whole family does it. Try it. So good!

Wishing you lots of smiles,

Dakota Duncan

Happy Tails and Inspiring Trails... Greetings and Happy November! I hope your week has been as productive or relaxing as you had hoped. Bonus points to you if you achieved some sort of balance! As a way of saying thank you for allowing me into your inbox each week, I am going to start sharing a short, exclusive essay written just for you. So, here we go! Max is Not Intellectually Gifted As parents, we want to see the best in our kids, be they human or animal. We want to believe they are...

On the Road Again! Me and Kola Hello and happy end of October! Here in the Pacific Northwest (US), we have had a glorious display of fall colors amidst a lot of rain. Everywhere we look, bright yellows, oranges and reds mix with the evergreens and it's truly remarkable. With the winds and rain, I suspect we hit the color peak this past week and soon we'll be looking at bare trees and evergreens. The highlight of my recent life is that last week we went on our first real trip in our new RV. It...

Hello! Me and Kola So, I am testing out the name "Happy Tails and Inspiring Trails" for this newsletter. What do you think? I've been on a roll with writing this week. So far, I've managed one essay per day. I hope to get two more done, but here's a mini-confession. I won't publish these last two until next week while I am on vacation. My wife and I are going to take our new RV out for five nights as a fall getaway to celebrate our 8-year Wedding Anniversary. It's kind of late in the season,...
